Bamako, February 9, 2025 – A terrorist attack on a convoy of civilian vehicles in northern Mali has left 25 people dead and 13 others wounded, the Malian army announced on Saturday evening.
Details of the Attack
In a statement released on social media, the general staff of the Malian armed forces attributed the attack to "a group of several terrorists." The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Kobé, about thirty kilometers from the city of Gao.
Victims Targeted
"During the violent fighting, the terrorists, pushed back in their retreat, deliberately targeted civilian passengers," the statement added. Three vehicles were hit, "causing the death of 25 civilians" and injuring 13 others, "mostly young foreign gold miners" heading to a gold mine in the Gao region.
Military Response
Malian armed forces are still conducting clearing operations. "19 bodies of abandoned terrorists and 4 others wounded were found, as well as several weapons and war materials recovered," the same source continued.
Recent Attacks
The Ansongo-Gao road, located in northern Mali, has been the scene in recent months of attacks attributed to terrorists or bandits who strip civilians of their belongings.
