Morocco Gears Up for 5G Launch in 2025
Morocco plans to launch a 5G network by 2025, aiming for 25% population coverage by 2026 and 70% by 2030. The government focuses on expanding digital infrastructure, reducing regional disparities, and enhancing security. Key telecom companies will participate, utilizing 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz frequencies for effective connectivity.

Morocco is on track to launch its 5G network by 2025, as part of a comprehensive strategy to develop its digital infrastructure and enhance broadband connectivity.
The Moroccan government aims to ensure high-speed internet access for all, with a target of covering 25% of the population by 2026 and 70% by 2030. Cities hosting the 2030 World Cup matches will receive complete 5G network coverage.
The plan includes connecting 6,300 government administrative buildings with fiber optics and equipping 5.6 million households by 2030. It also seeks to reduce regional disparities in access to digital services, especially in mountainous areas.
The government is working to expedite the process of granting 5G licenses to telecom companies, adopting a clear and simplified approach that meets companies' frequency needs.
Phone coverage and internet access are considered essential services for all citizens, and are strategic priorities for strengthening and developing the telecommunications sector in Morocco. The government supports companies operating in this sector through investment agreements exceeding 8.4 billion dirhams in 2023
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) plans to launch a call for tenders to grant 5G licenses, which will include local companies (Maroc Telecom, Inwi) and global companies such as Orange, Huawei, Nokia, and Ericsson. This measure aims to define the technical and commercial aspects of the future network.
Morocco's 5G network will rely on the 3.5 GHz frequency band, offering an ideal combination of coverage and data transfer capacity, in addition to the 700 MHz band for providing wide coverage in rural areas. MIMO (multiple input and multiple output) technology will be used to increase network capacity in densely populated areas
The first phases of 5G network deployment in 2025 will focus on major cities and strategic areas, with a goal of covering 25% of the population in 2026[8]. By 2030, Moroccan authorities aim to reach 70% coverage, focusing on projects related to smart transport, connected energy infrastructure, and precision agriculture.
The government is paying special attention to network security, and intends to adopt advanced security protocols to protect infrastructure from cyberattacks, using new-generation encryption systems and enhanced monitoring measures.
