Trump on the Pentagon:We will uncover abuses and fraud worth billions.
Musk is tasked by Trump to lead efforts to reduce the size of the federal workforce in the U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated today that he expects Elon Musk to uncover abuses and fraud worth billions of dollars in the Pentagon as part of an investigation the billionaire will conduct, reported Reuters.
"I will tell him very soon, perhaps within the next 24 hours, to investigate the Department of Education. Then the armed forces. To check the military," Trump said during a televised interview on Fox News. "We will uncover abuses and fraud worth billions, hundreds of millions," Trump added, referring to the Pentagon.
The budget of the U.S. Department of Defense is approximately one trillion dollars annually. In December, then-President Joe Biden signed a bill authorizing defense spending of $895 billion for the fiscal year ending on September 30.

Musk, who according to the White House is a special government employee, has been tasked by Trump to lead efforts to reduce the size of the federal workforce in the U.S. As part of this initiative, Musk's associates are seeking access to confidential information in the computer systems of various government agencies.
Critics argue that these efforts are likely illegal, risk exposing classified information, and effectively dismantle entire agencies without congressional approval.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz suggested in a separate interview with NBC that the Pentagon's shipbuilding processes, which he described as an "absolute mess," could be of particular interest to the Ministry of Government Efficiency.
